Happy Small Business Saturday! Big City Bride would like to extend a warm THANK YOU to all those who support us, and small businesses like us. In between the legendary Black Friday and Cyber Monday sits a day to celebrate all the locally owned businesses.  This day encourages holiday shoppers to embrace family-owned businesses and local storefronts. Supporting small businesses boosts community and builds dreams. Small businesses take the time to make a personal connection with the customers and people in their community.  Chicago is home to many small businesses that rely on community support. Take time this Saturday to embrace a small business in your neighborhood! We are truly grateful for the support we have received and we would like to encourage you to support a local venture in your community. SPLASH Feature: Ever After Alecia Tan & Evan Bern

SPLASH, Chicao’s dose of style, society and celebrity shared Alecia Tank + Evan Bern’s beautiful Chicago wedding. Their love was magical and their celebration was perfect. Chicago wedding planner, Crystal Moriarty, planned the celebration of their dreams!

Now…about their engagement, you must read this feature! See full article here or story details below.

While studying at California’s Gemological Institute of America in 2008, Evan Bern caught the eye of his classmate, gemologist Alecia Tank. During a class outing at a local bar, Tank playfully snatched Bern’s drink to lure him on the dance floor. “We had a quick dance and that was the first time we connected,” Bern recalls.

Six years later, after the two moved to Chicago together, Bern, now vice president of his father’s jewelry store, Marshall Pierce & Company, took Tank to the Grainger Hall of Gems at the Field Museum (1400 S. Lake Shore) — an activity she assumed was all business. “I told her Marshall Pierce had donated a ring for PR services and I had to make sure it was set up correctly,” he says. “When she found the ring, which was actually part of the exhibit, I proposed inside the museum.” After a shocked and thrilled Tank said yes, a boat pulled up to the museum’s dock packed with 65 of the couple’s closest friends and family members. “He put so much thought into it and involved so many of our loved ones,” says Tank. “He really swept me off my feet.”

Their Oct. 4 nuptials brought 300 guests to the Saint James Chapel (835 N. Rush) and, later, The Cultural Center (78 E. Washington) for a jewelry-embellished reception under the Tiffany stained-glass dome in Preston Bradley Hall. A fall wedding called for a rustic yet elegant vibe, complete with driftwood centerpieces with fresh blooms, and jewel tones incorporated into everything from the cake and flowers to the bridesmaids’ dresses. On each dinner plate, guests found a small, white tray — used by jewelers to determine the color of stones — with an image of a diamond on a place card. “The different diamonds determined what meal they were going to get,” Bern explains.

Following a decadent dinner featuring specialty cocktails, duck crepes and braised short ribs, The Chicago Players took the stage to perform a rendition of the couple’s favorite song, Umphrey’s McGee’s “Hajimemashite,” for their first dance. “It was an emotional moment,” Bern says. “It’s just a song that has always hit home for us.”

GoPro Go Wedding!

A trend popping up quite frequently in the wedding industry is the use of a GoPro video camera. Guests are providing the bride and groom with an extra footage to view for years to come. We don’t suggest replacing a professional videographer, but we are seeing people using GoPro cameras to capture different views of the wedding! The video can represent your wedding day through the eyes of a guest. This can be another way to celebrate, but to ensure this does not add stress it is best to make a plan. THINK AHEAD. If you would like a GoPro to be apart of special day, designate a person or a group of people to be in charge. You are going to be too busy celebrating on your wedding, so make sure to think about where the GoPro will be at least a ONE MONTH before wedding day. Start by asking friends or family who might own a GoPro…this will save money and time. Someone owning one might be willing to lend it out for the day, or might even volunteer to take on this task! This should be a fun extra to the wedding day, but not something to hinder your budget.

A professional wedding videographer does an impeccable job capturing the beautiful moments of a wedding day. A wedding videographer will capture the details, the big picture and everything in between. Designate the GoPro to do something different. The GoPro camera will be wedding day from the eye of a guest. This could catch a glimpse of friends gathering before ceremony anxiously awaiting the bride to stun them as she walks down the aisle. Also, the GoPro could capture guests catching up and enjoying cocktails before dinner or dancing the night away! If you are interested in using a GoPro, plan ahead and it will be another wonderful piece to look back on.

Jalayne + Andrew

It is very exciting when we are able to share a bride + groom’s complete wedding adventure. From the early stages of engagement to celebrating on wedding day Olivia Leigh Photographie captured Jalayne + Andrew’s loving and beautiful wedding experience perfectly. This real wedding feature showcases fall in Chicago better then any magazine ever could. Chicago wedding planner, Claire Weller planned Jalayne + Andrew’s outdoor November wedding ceremony (yes…we said outdoor ceremony in November). Big City Bride planned the most elegant and cozy autumn ceremony for our beautiful couple. How does one host an outdoor ceremony in Chicago during the month of November? Have stationed outdoor heaters, blankets for guests to stay warm and the Big City Bride team to make sure everything runs smooth! The aisle was lined with an assortment of candles and branches intertwined. The scene was elegant and rustic embracing the beautiful season of fall in Chicago. The ceremony ended with a GRAND sparkler exit lighting up the evening sky! After ceremony guests were able to enjoy a specialty cocktail paired with a “Fun Fact” napkin. Cocktail napkins revealed facts about Jalayne + Andrew as a couple…such a delightful detail.

The reception also included branches and the dcor was completely enchanting. Statement centerpieces sat in the center of each farm table; gorgeous branches with hanging twinkling candles. Lined up next to the branch display was a row of lush fall floral. The details were impeccable and the wedding day was beautiful. Jalayne + Andrew working with you both was an honor! Your day was intimate, romantic, genuine and all things wonderful! Your love was captured in a beautiful way, and we are so happy we were able to witness it.

Nothing but smiles from Chicago wedding planner Claire Weller all throughout wedding day!

Happy Anniversary to two very lovely people!
