Whitney Reynolds + David Heiner

One year ago, Chicago wedding planner Susan Cordogan and the Big City Bride team planned Whitney Reynolds and David Henier’s wedding! Whitney Reynolds, host of The Whitney Reynolds Show, was married November 2, 2013 in Chicago. Their beautiful day filled our hearts with complete joy and we feel honored we had the chance to witness their truly special love.Their day was nothing short of magical and still brings a smile to our face. The day began at Soul City Church in Chicago’s West Loop and ended at Chicago wedding venue, Lacuna Artist Lofts Studio. Our bride, groom, their friends and family celebrated in style. The reception was chic, glamourous and all things wonderful. Guests danced the night away while admiring the beautiful Chicago views. Catch a glimspe of their magical day through this video preview of their 2-hour wedding special that will feature their actual wedding day! Whitney + David we wish you a very happy one year together! We are so grateful we were able to celebrate with you one year ago and we are sending love your way!

Not many couples get the chance to watch their wedding unfold on the small screen. But in April of next year, Chicagoans Whitney Reynolds and David Heiner will relive their big day on WYCC-Channel 20’s “I Do, Chicago Style.” The two-hour special follows Reynolds — who’s no stranger to the camera as the host of WTTW-Channel 11’s “The Whitney Reynolds Show” — and Heiner, an account executive at Voxware, as they plan and execute their Nov. 2 nuptials. Though the bride hails from Oklahoma and the groom from Pittsburg, the pair decided to give their 250 guests an authentic Chicago experience. From enlisting the help of skincare specialist Leah Chavie to working with Platinum Events to find perfect lighting, the two chose only local vendors to help bring their vision to life. “This is the number one city to get married in,” says Reynolds. The couple hosted their rehearsal dinner at Navy Pier and tied the knot in the West Loop’s Soul City Church (1130 W. Adams), where their dog Puffy Doo-Little walked down the aisle in a bridesmaid’s dress and Reynolds accessorized her Vera Wang gown with wedged Nike high tops. “We call our wedding ‘hipsters gone glam,’ ” she jokes. For the reception, the party moved to Lacuna Artist Lofts (2150 S. Canalport) in Pilsen, where guests danced the night away while taking in sweeping views of the skyline.

Fall Back This Fall!

We are loving this cozy fall weather and getting excited for Chicago’s holiday season! So much to look forward to as we prepare for another beautiful season in Chicago! In preparation for winter, we want to remind you to set your clocks back 1 hour this Sunday! Enjoy that magical extra hour of sleep. As Chicago wedding planners we will be using this extra hour to dream up creative ideas for all our current projects.

Katherine + Timothy

A fabulous Fall Chicago wedding. The rustic dcor paired with one of Chicago’s most elegant weddings was the perfect combination. Katie + Tim dreamed of a warm and rustic wedding, Chicago wedding planner Crystal Moriarty did just that! Big City Bride was so happy to be apart of such a magical event. Looking back on this wedding warms are hearts and it’s hard to believe this was one year ago. Chicago wedding photographer Robyn Rachel Photography captured this beautifully! One of our favorite details at this wedding was the adorable sweets table. There were cake pops, ombre macaroons, cakes in mason jars, chocolate covered fruits. The stunning table was the focal point for the couple’s custom made wooden cake stand with their initials. The table was beyond delightful and guests could not stop visiting this perfect display! The night ended with a very big surprise.  The night ended with a Michael Jackson flash mob performed by our bride, groom, friends and family! It was such a fun ending to a wonderful wedding.

Katie + Tim happy one year of marriage! We were so happy to be apart of your day and we are sending happy wishes your way.

Investing in a Wedding Video

A wedding videographer magically captures a very unique angle of a wedding. Their eye for the most perfect moment and attention to detail is chilling. We could spend hours swooning over all our past client’s wedding videos. It is an investment during the wedding planning process, however, it is a lifelong keepsake. When deciding if a wedding video is in your budget, sit down as a couple and browse through past work of potential videographers. This will determine if this is something you want to invest in, and also will narrow down the videographer options. You will know the style you want in your personal wedding video before you have committed to a vendor. Another important resource when deciding if a wedding video is the right keepsake for you is consulting with your Chicago wedding planner. Your wedding planner will know the “inside scoop.” Your wedding planner will know more information that is listed on their website. A wedding planner can help decide if this is doable with your wedding budget. It is best to secure your wedding videographer early in the planning process. This will ensure you are able to hire your number one choice and will give you time to align your budget accordingly.

Spend time exploring the option of a wedding videographer. It is a magical keepsake and very special to look back on for years to come. We present the latest Big City Bride wedding video captured to perfection by Highway 61 Films. This wedding video captures the fine moments of wedding day. The beautiful details are visible in this two-minute wedding trailer. Tony + Amelia, it was a pleasure to plan your wedding! The day was incredible.

The Knot Industry Event 2014

Big City Bride has teamed up with The Knot for the past FIVE years planning this wonderful industry event! It is such an honor to work with such a talented team year after year to bring together professionals in Chicago. Kayla and the Big City Bride Team pulled together hot wedding trends for a fun and fabulous night! The Knot Industry Event is a networking event for all Chicago wedding industry professionals. It’s such a special networking event, and one we hold dear to our hearts. This event is a chance for such talented individuals to showcase their work. Various vendors pull together to produce a one of a kind event!

The Knot Industry Event was held at Morgan Manufacturing, Chicago’s newest venue. It was so special exploring and working in a new Chicago wedding and event venue (and made us very excited for our upcoming weddings there!).  Morgan Manufacturing is industrial and chic. The rooms are spacious allowing for many different events of all sizes. It is a great atmosphere and can host a black tie affair or a simple, casual event.

This event is one we always look forward to. Planning this event is always so exciting, but our favorite is collaborating with all our vendor friends. This event would not be possible without all Chicago vendors joining together. The amazing and talented vendors we had the pleasure of working with include: Morgan Manufacturing, Blue Plate Catering, SpritzOlogy, Glazed & Infused, Black Dog Gelato, Tipsy Cakes, Kehoe Designs, Tablescapes, BBJ Linens, Hot Mix Entertainment, Jason Ellis Entertainment, Avantgarde Photography, Vanilla Video, Studio M Creations, Chicago Bridal Hair & Make Up, Lulu DK Tattoos, Rock My Bowtie, Spa@theWit, Stella & Dot and Erin Gallagher Jewelry.

This event turned out perfect and Avantgarde Photography captured it beautifully! The photos are absolutley magical. The detailed shots showcase all the amazing work that Big City Bride and Chicago wedding vendors put forth.  It was such an amazing event, and Kayla and the Big City Bride team was so happy to be apart it.

Bacon Bar….YES, PLEASE! A variety of bacon in a variety of flavors. The perfect addition to your wedding event.

Signature cocktails add flair and fun to your wedding or event. It gives a personal touch to your celebration and it’s such a tasty treat for guests! We loved this 100 Days of Summer speciality drink!

POWER HOUR Charging station! Charge your phone at the party so you don’t miss a beat.

Bowtie Bar by Rock the Bowtie! Kayla and the Big City Bride team had such a fun time trying out different styles.

Chicago wedding planners Kayla and Mary Ellens ROCKING that bowtie!

One of the most popular features at the event…THE SELFIE STATION! Pose and snap. This mirror was perfect to capture the entire outfit.

“Now let me take a SELFIE!”

Instant magnet keepsakes. A fun takeaway for guests!

And of course shutter booth never disappoints! Such fun posing and dressing up against the perfect gold sparkly backdrop.

Here are some great captures of industry professionals who attended this wonderful event!

Tips for Planning Your Winter Wedding

Although we hate to utter the words “winter” only in October, for those planning your nuptials it is important to think ahead. It is our nature as Chicago wedding planners to always have a back up plan regarding weather. We make sure all our bases our covered, providing us a plan for any situation. When a Chicago winter is involved…we have many. For those planning a winter wedding it is important to think through all the different scenarios. From photo tours to transportation you must plan ahead for a stress-free day. We love a winter (see all the reasons here), but if the details have not been thought through your day can be a bit hectic. With last years EXTREME cold we have made a list of important things to consider while preparing for Chicago winter wedding:

·      Some photos are not worth the chill! If you have a photo tour planned around the city for your winter wedding, talk to your photographer and make a plan B schedule at indoor locations – don’t want to ruin your hair and makeup! If you choose to tough it out, bring plenty of coats, blankets, gloves, and hand warmers to stay toasty between photos.

·      Ensure your guests’ comfort by arranging heated transportation between the hotel, ceremony, and reception sites. Chicago’s winter months are no time to be wandering the city without directions, especially for out-of-town guests. Keep your guests safe, warm and on time!

·      Talk to your florist as you approach your wedding date: if the weather predictions include extreme cold or wind, you may want to discuss ordering duplicate bouquets and boutonnieres: one for your outdoor photo-shoot and one for the ceremony / reception. Flowers in harsh conditions can fade and wilt, so protect your bouquets in a plastic or paper bag to prevent damage.

·      ?Take advantage of the savory soups and comfort foods of winter! Ask your caterer to use winter flavors such as ginger, cinnamon, mint, rosemary, and parsley in your entrees. Let your guests melt when they see the your hot cocoa or coffee bar! Add red velvet, chocolate mint, or cinnamon doughnuts to top off your guests’ nights! Either of these can be a welcoming winter replacement at your reception.

Winter weddings are beautiful. Falling snow and the Chicago skyline serve as the perfect backdrop. To ensure a perfect event day, make a PLAN B, C and D for the weather!

Wedding Welcome Bags, Chicago Style!

A great way to kick off your Chicago wedding weekend is to welcome your guests with a complete Chicago welcome bag upon the arrival to their Chicago Hotel! Welcome bags are a fun way to showcase some favorite Chicago items, things to see and do, along with an itinerary for your Chicago wedding weekend.

Here are some fun ideas to include in your Chicago wedding welcome bags…

We are obsessing over is beautiful graphic of the Chicago cityscape! We may be a bit biased, but there is no view quite as spectacular. This graphic is the perfect addition to inform and entertain guests, “How well do you know Chicago?” This can even be the front of welcome letter and if you want to save money this is a perfect DIY craft.

  • A welcome letter is a great way to thank your guests for traveling near and far to help celebrate your big day. Some guests may not bring the wedding invitation from home and giving them a weekend itinerary will help them stay on track for all the wedding weekend festivities. Adding some of your favorite Chicago restuarants, bars and Chicago attractions, can help guests plan what they want to do surrounding your wedding. Wedding welcome letters can be made from your stationer or even at home! If you want to be creative, this is a fun project to do!
  • If you are using a Chicago wedding planner, be sure to add their contact number, in case of an emergency! This will put you and your guests at ease knowing that your Chicago wedding planner is taking care of anything and everything!
  • Including a Chicago visitors guide is a great item to have if your guests are looking for fun things to do surrounding your Chicago wedding. This guide describes different events going on in Chicago along with great Chicago restaurants, fun places to shop and all the beautiful sites that Chicago has to offer!
  • Having Chicago snacks can put a nice touch on your Chicago wedding! Some great Chicago treats can include…Frango Mints, Jay’s Potato Chips, Garretts Popcorn, and Cracker Jacks, which are just to name a few. Not only are snacks a great idea, but having some bottled water or even some craft beer like Goose Island!

MAKE NOTE: one thing to check before making your Chicago wedding welcome bags, is with your Chicago hotels. Some hotels may charge a fee to hand out welcome bags or to deliver them to each guest room. Also, hotels may not allow you to hand out at the front desk and only deliver to your guests rooms. Each hotel has different restrictions, so it is best to contact your Chicago hotels.

Chicago welcome bags are not only a great welcome for your guests, they are also a wonderful way to start your Chicago wedding weekend!

Seating at Your Wedding!

Deciding on the perfect seating arrangement can be quite the task for any couple heading down the aisle, especially when you consider all the options!  Both open and assigned seating can each be great choices for your special day, depending on the overall tone of the event you are hoping for.  Consider the pros and cons to these two seating arrangements and you are sure to make the best decision for your Chicago wedding.

OPEN SEATING: Open seating is a great choice for a couples who want a more casual dinnner. Guests have the option of sitting wherever they want, so no need to worry about uncomfortable small talk at a table of people who have never met!  And even better yet, the bride and groom won’t need to work for long hours fussing over a seating chart. With open seating, you can have many differnet seating arrangements, with short and tall tables as well as special lounge areas. You can even add fun food stations to the reception area with various delectable cuisines!  Just as long as you make sure to have enough seating for every guest, this is a perfect option that allows guests to choose where they want to sit and even sometimes what they want to eat.

ASSIGNED SEATING: On the other hand, if organization is your best friend, assigned seating might be the way to go!  Perfect for a more formal affair, this option takes all of the pressure off of your guests.  They won’t need to choose where they sit, and in most cases will have already picked their meal for the event.  Additionally, there will be no wasted space in the venue due to unfilled seats.  Not only that, but all guest dietary or handicap needs will be accounted for prior to the event, so you won’t need to worry about running to the kitchen for a special accommodations on the day of!  It is customary for guests to receive their table assignments on escort cards during the cocktail hour, which is a great excuse for a fun display that can add to the wedding dcor.  And if you want to add one more personal touch, think about special place settings at each table.  Whether on a place card, thank you note, or on the menu itself, place settings can make your guests feel appreciated on your Chicago wedding day!

With either of these two seating arrangements, you are sure to impress your guests and have a wedding to remember!
